Christmas in Gandía 2026: a traditional Christmas by the sea

Christmas in Gandía 2026: lights, the Three Kings and seaside walks for families. What happens every year and how to follow the official programme.

What is Christmas like in Gandía?

At Christmas, Gandía has two sides you can enjoy on the same day. In the morning, a wide, quiet beach, with the low December sun and the seafront promenade almost to yourself. In the evening, an old town with lights, music in the squares and plans designed for children.

Christmas 2026 begins on Wednesday 25 November at 18:00 with the switching-on of the lights in Plaza del Prado: a family concert, open to all and free, according to agenda365. The rest of the “Gandia, el teu Nadal” programme is published by the Town Council in late November or early December.

If you want a Christmas with all its spirit, but with fresh air, light and the sea, Gandía is another way to live it.

Christmas in Gandía in four facts

  • 25 November, 18:00: Christmas lights switch-on in Plaza del Prado, free (agenda365).
  • 5 January: the Three Kings Parade (Cavalcada dels Reis Mags) through the town centre, as every year.
  • 14 December – 7 January: Christmas shop windows from the local shop competition (agenda365).
  • Around 17:40: sunset on Christmas Eve. Time to swap the beach for the squares.

A traditional Christmas, with the sea in front of you

December in Gandía begins with a light you don’t expect. By ten in the morning the sun is already warming the terrace, the sand is smooth after the night and more bikes than cars pass along the promenade. You wear a jumper, not a coat.

In the evening you change scenery. You head into the old town, a few kilometres from the beach, where the lights come on early because it’s dark before six. There’s music in the squares and children pull you by the hand to the next attraction.

That is Christmas in Gandía: the Christmas you know, with all its spirit, but with the sea a short walk away.

A Christmas day in Gandía, at your own pace

In the morning, the sea. A walk along the shore or a bike ride along the promenade. In December the beach is wide and quiet, and children can run without dodging towels. If you fancy more nature, the Marjal wetland and the nearby routes are just a few minutes away.

At midday, an unhurried lunch. A rice dish on a terrace on the seafront or at the Grau, the old fishing port. In Gandía, paella and fideuà are eaten at lunchtime, and on sunny days eating outdoors is a pleasure.

Blurred Christmas lights at dusk

In the evening, the town centre. Lights, Christmas shop windows, the Fireta del Prado, concerts and a visit to Father Christmas or the Three Kings, depending on the date. On Christmas Eve the sun sets around 17:40: time to swap the beach for the squares.

At night, at home. A quiet dinner in the apartment, with the terrace just a step away. If you want to set the table, here are some ideas to decorate your Christmas table.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in a seafront apartment

Spending Christmas away from home doesn’t mean giving up a family dinner. In an apartment you have a kitchen, a big table and room for everyone to go at their own pace: those who get up early to watch the sun rise over the sea, and those who linger at the table.

And if you’re travelling with little ones, ask for a cot and high chair when you book.

The Three Kings in Gandía: the most awaited night

In Spain, children receive their presents from the Three Kings on the night of 5 January. In Gandía, the Cavalcada dels Reis Mags parades through the town centre every 5 January. In 2025 the route was extended and, the evening before, there was a drone show with the arrival of the Royal Envoy in Plaza del Tirant. The 2027 time and route will be published with the Christmas programme.

Where to stay in Gandía at Christmas

For a Christmas by the sea, look for an apartment with a terrace, a few steps from the beach and well connected to the town centre. At AG we have apartments designed for families, with everything ready so you only have to arrive.
