The Dunes of L'Ahuir
The ecological and scenic value of this beach is based on housing fragments of coastal sand in a good state of conservation, being natural spaces with little presence in the Valencian territory as a consequence of the high urban pressure that has affected these areas. The restinga is a coastal deposit of sediments from rivers and marine currents with great environmental importance as it is a transition zone between the dune ecosystem and the post-dune vegetation and the humid marsh ecosystem.
Ahuir Beach is located in the northern area of the municipality of Gandia, specifically, in the strip of territory that connects Gandia Beach with Xeraco Beach. It is approximately 2 km long. To access it we can park on c/ Ribera Baixa in Playa de Gandia or along the different rural roads that connect with Ctra. Nazaret-Oliva.

The role of dunes in the coastal ecosystem
Beach dunes play a crucial role in the protection and stability of coastal ecosystems. Its importance is manifested in several aspects:
1. Protection against erosion:
The dunes act as a natural barrier that protects the coast from erosion caused by wind and waves. Vegetation on dunes helps retain sand and stabilize the dune structure.
2. Resistance to storms:
During storms and gales, dunes can absorb the impact of high waves and surge, protecting the inland land and preventing flooding.
3. Habitat for flora and fauna:
The dunes provide unique habitats for a variety of plant and animal species adapted to living in sandy and windy conditions. These species may be rare or endangered, so dune conservation is crucial to preserving biodiversity.
4. Water Filtration:
The dunes also act as a natural filter for rainwater, helping to recharge underground aquifers and maintain water quality.
5. Aesthetics and recreation:
Dunes add aesthetic value to the coastal landscape, making beaches more attractive to visitors. In addition, they provide a natural environment that allows people to enjoy nature and tranquility.
